Are you feeling a little hungry for inspiration this week. Well, if you are in the beautiful Bloubergstrand area, have we got a few places to challenge your tastebuds, and take you to new gourmet heights, at some of our favourite restaurants.
If you are feeling in the mood for something new, how about sampling a slow roasted, boneless Pork Belly, served with bubble and squeak, covered with a mustard and sage sauce? Ladies, have you ever tried orange and cognac infused Duck, oven roasted toll golden brown, served with poached figs and a splash of citrus sauce, served with risotto and fig dumpling? Sounds divine, doesn’t it?
Bloubergstrand is famous for its fresh ocean catches. You can dine on fresh parmesan and almond crusted Kingklip, pan fried and accompanied with delectable lemon potato croquettes, served with lemon butter or shrimp sauce. For something a little more adventurous, you have to try the Game Fish of the day. The sesame encrusted game fish, is cooked to your desire, served with Asian vegetables, stir fry noodles and a pickled ginger soy dressing. Mouth wateringly divine!
What meal is complete without something sweet? Try their Top deck Chilli Chocolate Parfait, served with fresh fruit and berry compote… The ever popular Crème Brulee , topped with delicately spun sugar and fresh fruit. For those who want something new, there is always On The Rocks infamous O.T.R Vodka Delight, which consists of a miniature brulee, baked cheesecake and caramel vodka sorbet!
We told you we would take you to new gourmet heights, but the journey doesn’t end here…
Visitors come from across the world and experience the exquisite West Coast cuisine, found at Ons Huisie.
In true West Coast tradition, start out your journey with Aunt Baby’s Pickled Fish; this Cape Malay Hake is served with the freshest of homemade bread. From there we suggest you move on to the renowned West Coast Potjie. Fresh from the ocean, this little pot contains calamari, prawns, line fish, and mussels in a rich creamy curry sauce, served with rice and a poppadum.
For those who crave more land than sea offerings, there is an endless array of dishes available for you. Tuck into a Venison Potjie, and the soft and succulent slow cooked venison, simmered in red wine jus, combined with carrots, baby potatoes, onions and a hint of garlic served over rice will have you begging for more.
Ladies, you have to try Sir Baird Pasta! Penne pasta, tossed with tender chicken strips and delicious sautéed mushrooms, served in a creamy Bechamel sauce will awaken your tastebuds. You can also try Francis se Chicken Pie if you are feeling a little nostalgic for grandma’s kitchen.
For something sweet, what could be better than traditional Souskluitjies? These homemade steamed dumplings are sprinkled with cinnamon and served with custard; delicious. Ons Huisie is also the only restaurant where you will find Sannies Warm Home Baked Malva Pudding!

Madame Paris – the name says it all. Roasted asparagus topped with goats’ cheese wrapped in bacon, skewered and served on a toasted olive Panini, drizzled with olive oil and basil pesto. This lovely dish is served with a poached egg, fresh basil and roasted cocktail tomatoes; now you understand what we mean by divine!
Their Croque monsier au poulet is also a firm favourite. Two slices of white bread filled with a delicious grilled chicken breast, honey infused French mustard, Gruyere cheese, and a Bechamel sauce, baked until bubbly and lightly browned, served with Winter greens will have you wondering what traditional breakfasts were all about.
