The Serengeti – an experience like few other

Experience the Serengeti like few others

It has been said that, “No one can return from the Serengeti unchanged, for the tawny lions will forever prowl our memory and great herds our imagination.” Take it from us at Acacia Africa, that indeed there is nothing more serendipitous than a safari in the Serengeti sanctuary, Tanzania’s vast national wildlife park.

The Serengeti region encompasses the Serengeti National Park itself, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Maswa Game Reserve, the Loliondo, Grumeti and Ikorongo Controlled Areas as well as the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. Over 90,000 tourists visit the Park each year. Covering almost 15,000 square kilometers. The Serengeti ecosystem is one of the oldest on earth. The essential features of climate, vegetation and fauna have barely changed in the past million years. It brings about a sanctuary, one that is home to millions of migrant mammals and nearly 500 species of birds.

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Serengeti National Park lie adjacent to one another with no fences hampering wildlife to freely roam between. From the Naabi Hill entry point there’s ample opportunity to spot wildlife en-route to the camp where you’ll overnight in the open African wilderness.

Further exploring on your way out of the Park, heading over to the Ngorongoro Crater is a must. This Crater rim is an ideal spot to camp for the evening, overlooking the magnificent base 600m below. The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most beautiful natural wildlife safari sites in the world and an exceptional place to view a large variety of wildlife species, in a relatively small area. At 326 square kilometers, the Ngorongoro Crater is Africa’s largest intact caldera and a World Heritage Site. If the view from the rim (2400 meters above sea level) is spectacular, the sight from the Crater floor (some 600 meters below) is equally enjoyable.

If the above-chronicled fairytale experience took your breath away, Acacia Africa Short Safaris & Treks are just what the doctor ordered. These tours are designed to be more country and adventure or activity specific. The group size rarely consists of more than 8 people and in most cases, departs daily.
