The Hypnotic Allure of Namibia’s Top Sites Awaits You!
Welcome back, travellers! As promised, we have another exciting chapter to help you to pick where to travel in extraordinary Africa for your next adventure vacation.
Namibia stands as a stark contrast to the rolling grasslands of other African countries, offering visitors a stark and astounding landscape of bold colours and empty spaces, yet it steals the heart of almost everyone who visits. You’ll meet seemingly endless horizons, crystal clear air and some of the most spectacular scenic vistas and wildlife sights offered anywhere in the world. If you’re a budding photographer or want to inspire others travel the world via an awesome Instagram feed, this is the perfect destination for you!
Climb the dunes at Sossusvlei
The arid and wonderful scenery of Sossusvlei has to be one of Namibia’s most iconic sights. It’s one you simply can’t leave off of your itinerary. Imagine this: plunging landscape of towering pink-to-orange dunes, soaring into icy blue skies, while around you, lay stark white salt pans in the hard-edged shadows of the dimming evening light. Bring your camera and a ‘adventure seeking’ attitude and see what this beautiful place has to offer. Don’t forget to share your breath-taking Sossusvlei pictures with us on #AcaciaAfricaLive.
The Sossusvlei Dunes are among the tallest in the world, some reaching almost 350 meters high! This sparse landscape holds its own spectacular beauty. Forming an important part of the Namib Desert itself, it marks the terminal point of the Tsauchab River, and the clay and salt pan of ‘Dead Vlei’ remains bone-dry most years. When occasional rainfall does manage to fill the pan, the site draws visitors in to catch sight of the glassy water and the perfect reflections of the dunes and dead camel thorn trees that remain preserved in the dry, desert climate.
The Sossusvlei is far from barren, however, with unique plants and animals that have adapted to occupy this unique ecological niche. Access is typically by 4×4, but visitors without sturdy wheels can make use of shuttles to the area for everyone to enjoy this wonder of the natural world.
Etosha National Park
Etosha National Park is said to be one of the most prime locations to view wildlife on Earth and is a photographer’s dream! Forming the gateway to Northern Namibia and Ovamboland, this National Park has a wide variety of wildlife and vegetation, and is a must see when traveling in this beautiful country.
Floodlit waterholes offer visitors the perfect vantage point to marvel at the diversity of life in the park, and the limited water sources mean the animals practically flock right in front of your eyes.
The park’s biggest draw, without a doubt, is its bountiful elephant herds but you’ll find lions, leopards, antelope and so much more waiting for you in the incredible national park. The Etosha Pan, when transformed by the rare rains, is home to teeming flocks of gorgeous flamingos, pelicans and hundreds of birds’ species can be seen year-round.
Etosha National Park offers a mesmerizing safari experience like no other, and simply has to be part of your Namibian – and indeed your African – experience.
Let the wide-open vistas of Namibia beckon you. With one of the lowest population densities in the world and some of the most beautiful landscapes, the vastness that this unique country offers cradle your world-weary soul and renew a sense of wonder.
